EDX Upgrades SignalPro Planning Tool

April 12, 2011 – EDX Wireless, a leading provider of RF planning tools, today announced the release of EDX® SignalPro® v7.4. As part of EDX’s commitment to continued innovation, release version 7.4 of SignalPro contains many new advances, new capabilities and additional features, all available as an in line upgrade for the entire EDX SignalPro family products.

Among its many new and enhanced capabilities, SignalPro version 7.4 contains completely revised and updated route studies with a choice of over 30 different studies. Route studies allow the user to simulate system performance along a defined route or set of points, focusing only on the service area of interest.

Also included in this new version is a Positive Train Control (PTC) Network Design Module which allows for frequency planning using user-defined study routes or study routes imported from MapInfo or GIS poly-lines. This capability allows for the most efficient use of PTC channels by ensuring that the routes of interest are protected from interference while not taking into consideration areas outside of right of ways.

Similar Major updates and upgrades to Smart Grid Large Scale Mesh Studies analysis have been added to the SignalMX Module, including capacity limited studies. The Capacity Limited Study allows the user to specify limits on device capacity that are imposed on the mesh study with the resultant graphical and text outputs. This helps to identify areas of weak capacity.

Additions for the Public Safety and LMR markets include: uplink (talk-back) signal analysis; independent uplink path loss calculations; sector-level predicted OFDMA uplink interference or user-specified measured sector-level uplink interference; support for modeling tower mounted amplifiers; and analysis of the effect of multi-couplers on system noise figure. These studies allow the engineer to verify that their radio systems can meet uplink (“talk-back”) requirements.

A range of new uplink studies have also been added including: receive power at best voting receiver; uplink log-normal reliability studies (with or without voting receivers); number of base receivers above threshold; and uplink path loss. All of these uplink studies can use the independent uplink path loss calculation feature. Similarly, new downlink studies include: number of servers within capture ratio study; interference statistics for multi-channel systems; and an LTE ICIC number of suppressed interferers study.

Finally, Bing aerial and road maps can now be added as an underlay to the project map. These detailed maps help the engineer more easily visualize the project and determine areas of interest in radio system design.
